Saturday, November 2nd, 2024 at 6pm
For $300/ticket, guests are invited to enjoy dinner & drinks, experience music & dancing featuring Georgios Karatzas and Athenian Entertainment Orchestra, and witness the awards presentation. Each year, Alpha Omega Council recognizes outstanding individuals who have excelled in their accomplishments from the worlds of government, business, philanthropy, and the arts and sciences. These men and women are honored at the Annual Honors Gala through the presentation of three exceptional awards:
2024 Lifetime Achievement Award: The 2024 Alpha Omega Council Lifetime Achievement Award Honoree will be Nicholas R. Larigakis, the President and CEO of American Hellenic Institute (AHI). Mr. Larigakis is being recognized for his nearly 40 years of leadership of AHI and his continued dedication and excellence in educating, promoting, and strengthening relations between the United States and Greece and Cyprus.
2024 Philhellene Award: The 2024 Philhellene Award will be presented to Loren J. Samons II, Associate Professor of Classical Studies at Boston University. We pay tribute to Prof. Samons for his decades of leadership as an internationally recognized scholar and expert of ancient Greek history and literature, Hellenic culture, and classical studies, as well as for his passion for Athenian democracy and imperialism.
2024 Emerging Leader Award: The 2024 Emerging Leader Award will be presented to Anthe Mitrakos, a journalist, communications professional, entrepreneur, and advocate for Hellenic culture, history and art. Ms Mitrakos is also a past recipient of the Peter Agris Memorial Journalism Scholarship in 2008.
The Honors Gala will also provide an opportunity to recognize and celebrate young Greek American aspiring journalists with the Peter Agris Memorial Journalism Scholarship, given in memory of Alpha Omega Council’s late founder.
During last year’s sold out 2023 Honors Gala, with nearly 400 attendees, the 2023 Lifetime Achievement Honoree was George P. Sakellaris, the President, CEO, and chairman of Ameresco, Inc. In his forty years in the energy efficiency industry, George has been a pioneer and an early advocate for renewable energy across the globe, playing a central role in the “green” energy movement. He is an innovator, an entrepreneur, and a visionary in clean energy across the globe. While the impact of his work is far reaching, he continues to be an incredible supporter of Greece and the Greek American community locally, nationally, and internationally. Additionally, the 2023 Philhellene Award was presented to Carolyn B. Maloney, former US Representative from the State of New York and co-founder of the Congressional Hellenic Caucus. The 2023 Emerging Leader Award was presented to Dr. Vanessa Farsadaki, a preeminent leader in Space Medicine, a medical doctor, and soon to be Greece’s first-ever astronaut!
